Ingredients:
- 1 onion, peeled and diced
- 500g mince beef
- 1 green pepper, deseeded and diced
- 1 X 400g tinned tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon chilli powder
- Salt and black pepper
- 4 X burger buns
Method:
Heat a dash of oil in a large pan over a medium heat and fry the onion until soft and lightly browned, approximately eight minutes. Remove from the pan, set aside and reheat the pan until hot, then add half of the mince and cook until browned, five minutes. (You do not want to crowd the pan with all the mince or it will stew, not brown.) Set aside with the onions and brown the remaining mince. When cooked, return the onions and all the mince to the pan and add the pepper, tinned tomatoes, the red wine vinegar, sugar and chilli powder. Heat until the tomatoes starts to bubble, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes until thick. Season well with salt and pepper. Serve with lightly toasted hamburger buns.
